Dark Dog Moto Tour presentation

The Dark Dog Moto Tour, world’s biggest road rally, will take place from the 6th till the 14th of October.

The trajectory and the novelties will be revealed at the press conference in March.

The Dark Dog Moto Tour has the support of 3 ministries:

  • The Ministry of the Interior, Overseas Departments and Territorial Administration,
  • The Ministry of Defense
  • The Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and housing

Also SIRPA Terre and the Interministerial Delegation for Road Safety are our institutional partners.

Road Safety is one of the main concerns of the race, organized by the Association for the Development of Motorcycle Practicing and Security. It’s one of the reasons that the Federation of the Clubs of motorized policemen of the National Police and the “Garde Républicaine” are the co-organisers of this event.

The Dark Dog Moto Tour unites 250 participants, amongst them the best French and foreign professional riders but also many amateurs. Each day of the race consists out of liaisons (where the public code of the road has to be respected) and several classifying specials (2 to 3 chronometered races, on track or on closed roads) and all of them under the escort of the motorized policemen of the National Police and the Garde Républicaine.

Popularity and creativity:

Besides being a sports event, the Dark Dog Moto Tour of France is also a very popular event with a large leisure village. Every round of the Dark Dog Moto tour de France stands for a major event in the town it passes through. There are many activities such as initiation tracks for motorcycle riding, demonstrations, parades, many booths, a partner village, an exhibition village with all important motorcycle brands… Thanks to the support of those partner-villages, the access to the exhibition village, the safety tracks and the “competitors paddock” are free and open for everyone.

The Dark Dog Moto Tour de France is an organisation that exists out of more than 1500 people, implicated in the race and present on the site, at the service of the wonders and joys of motorcycle riding.

Lessons & Security for the youngsters:

Next to the race, prevention for motorcycle riders is the main philosophy behind this event. In the village, an educational initiation track is set up by the national police for youngsters from 13 to 17 years old. The goal is to make them aware of a safe riding style with 50cc’s (10 minutes per participant). Since the beginning of this initiative, more than 6000 youngsters have already followed this initiation.

The rules and regulations of the Dark Dog Moto Tour make both participants and spectators aware of the importance of a perfect handling of a vehicle in traffic and a respect of the codes of the road, for everyone’s safety. This is demonstrated by the participants throughout every liaison between the different villages of the tour, as well as during the specials (on closed roads or on tracks) where the search for pure performance is allowed.

In 2011, more than 300 000 spectators showed up during the 10 days of the event. Tanks to the many years of experience, the Dark Dog Moto Tour can count on a warm welcome wherever it passes by. After merely 9 editions, this race has become the most important motorcycle sports event of France, the most popular one with the most media coverage.
